If you're preparing 2 cups, measure 3 or 2.5 of water of same cup.Did I read it? Yes, I did but I had no idea what it meant.
So this is the full story. On Tuesday May 11, 2021, I decided to prepare jollof rice for the first time. Sounds cool right? I picked up my phone and set out to the MoMo agent to withdraw money for this wonderful Ghana jollof.
Ingredients
Powdered pepper
Green pepper
Onion
Carrot
Remie
Stew (spice)
Fresh tomato
Preparation
I cut my vegetables and placed them in the oil to fry for sometime, I added my powdered pepper to spice it up a little. I added my Pomo Tomato Mix and Sister Mackerel; added my salt and allowed it to simmer. The highly nutritious vegetable stew was prepared nicely.
Climax
Now, let's prepare the jollof rice. Personally, I don't like rice much. I am used to soupy meals and fast foods but on this fateful day, I decided to cook not just an ordinary rice but jollof rice.
Before I had even lit the fire, I had already informed 3 people that I was going to prepare jollof rice. Hmmm!
I was then given these steps to follow
1. If you're preparing 2 cups, measure 3 or 2.5 of water of same cup.
2. Pour the amount of water to be used into your stew.
3. Stir and taste if salt needs to be added, and yes there should be salt added anyway.
4. Allow it boil and then pour the rice into it.
5. Stir thoroughly until it's well cooked. (This is where the brouhaha occurred)
I was using a plastic ladle so I couldn't stir well, and little did I know was, 2 cups of rice and when I talk about cup I mean the cup we use at home, is a higher quantity of rice when cooked. It was then I realized I was rather cooking jollof rice for "School canteen".
Stirring and stirring, all the water was dissolved, the jollof was still not well cooked, I added some little amount of water, still not well cooked, added some more water, still not well cooked, I finally gave up. I was asked to put some plastic bag on top and allow the vapor to cook it by itself.
As you're reading this wonderful story, the jollof has been well packaged in a black polythene bag and disposed off safely.
